One of the most harrowing skincare problems you can have when the calendar turns to January is dry skin.  If you're already prone to dry skin, you know the horrors this can cause for you in trying to keep your skin youthful and glowing.  A good skincare routine will work wonders to combat the harsh winter weather that can cause dry skin.

Whether you live in Antarctica or Wisconsin or somewhere in between, if you're battling cold weather this winter, you're likely battling dry skin as well.  Don't fret, there is good news on the horizon.  If you know these five things you should be able to combat the dry skin and keep your skin in the best shape it can be while you fight off the cold and dry winter air.

First you will want to know what some of the symptoms of dry skin.  If you are on the lookout for these symptoms you can make sure you are ahead of them and then work on making sure that they don't worsen over time.  Some of the symptoms you should be looking out for include tightening of your skin, itchiness, rough or flaky skin.  If you start to feel these symptoms coming on and that is out of the ordinary for your skin you may need to take action right away.

Next, did you know there are different types of dry skin?  It's true.  General dryness or xerosis is the most common type of dry skin and is likely what you are experiencing due to the changing weather conditions.  However, there are other types of dry skin that you should be on the lookout for as well, such as atopic dermatitis (eczema) and ichthyosis (excessive scaling.)  These may be able to be treated with a high quality skincare routine, but in some cases you may need to seek the expert advice of a dermatologist.

This next one is actually a two-for-one.  Hydrating your skin is absolutely essential for keeping it fresh and avoiding dryness.  There are a number of ways you can keep your skin hydrated like drinking plenty of water and eating a diet that is rich in fruits and vegetables.  Just small changes in your diet can make a big difference in the winter months.  You can also hydrate your skin from the outside in by adding a humidifier to your home.  This will add moisture to the air around you and will aid in keeping your skin from getting scaly and dry.

How you clean your skin each day in the winter matters a tremendous amount to how well you can keep from getting dry skin.  Using our Vegan Daily Facial Cleanser as part of your skincare routine will go a long way in making sure you are combating the difficult weather conditions that are causing your dry skin in the first place.  This cleanser is gentle on your skin and is the perfect way to prepare your skin for your moisturizing routine.

Which leads us to the fifth and final thing you should know about keeping your dry skin moisturized.  You should moisturize frequently.  Find a moisturizer that is best suited for your skin type and then apply regularly, maybe even multiple times throughout the day during the most critically dry months of the year.  If you have a moisturizing routine, which may even be separate from your skincare routine during the winter months, it will go a long way in keeping your skin healthy.

There is no doubt that depending on the climate you live in you may need to adjust your skincare routine for the winter months.  If you take the time to think about how the environment you live in is affecting your skin you will be able to take the steps you need to have glowing skin even during the harshest winter months that can often take a toll on your skin.
