"Sleeping Beauty" Had It Right, Sleep Is A Key Piece Of Your Skincare Routine

It may be a fairy tale of a bygone era, but it still holds true today, getting your beauty sleep is not a myth.  In fact, studies have found that getting between seven and nine hours of sleep a night is one of the best things you can do for your skin to keep it healthy and youthful looking.

Why is it important to have a healthy sleep schedule to add to your skincare routine?

Your body goes through a period of restoration while you're asleep.  The damage your skin has endured throughout the day is repaired and if you cut back on your sleep there is less time for the damaged skin to repair itself.  If you get a solid amount of sleep your skin will be able to retain more moisture and heal itself in the overnight so you can bounce back when you wake up in the morning.

Not only is there a physical benefit to sleep for your skin, but there is also an emotional component to a good nights sleep.  If you wake up after getting the recommended seven to nine hours of sleep you will feel well rested and more attractive according to psychological studies that have reported out their results in recent years.

Here are some tips to get a good night sleep so you wake up feeling refreshed with skin that has had enough time to repair and restore itself.

1.) No caffeine for three hours before you go to bed.  Caffeine is one of the worst things you can do for your sleep habits.  If you are drinking coffee or soda before bed, you should stop now because there is a clear connection between these types of beverages and poor sleep patterns.

2.) Have a routine.  A routine has been known to allow your body the space to slow down naturally and signals to your body that it is time to sleep.  If your routine is different every night your body will not be ready when your head finally hits the pillow.

3.) Ditch the screens.  Watching TV or worse using your phone just before bed is one of the worst things you can do for your sleep routine.  The blue light on the screen keeps your mind racing and makes it much harder to fall asleep and even stay asleep once you've gotten your eyes shut for the night.

Getting a good night sleep requires a little bit of work but it will be well worth it when you wake up for a long night of sleeping to refreshed skin and a revitalized mind.
