When you wake up in the morning what is the one thing that you dread more than anything else in the entire world? The answer we often get is bags under the eyes. Having bags under your eyes is a sure sign that you are not taking good enough care of yourself holistically and there are a number of things you can do to make sure you aren't facing this dreaded scenario every morning.
There will always be days when you do not get enough sleep or you forget a step in your skincare routine that leaves you wishing you had used your eye cream, but those days will likely be few and far between. What we're talking about here is the ability to maintain good under eye health so you are feeling youthful and refreshed each and every day.
Often we hear that people think that the reason you get dark circles or "bags" under your eyes is that you're not getting enough sleep and that is part of the story, but it's not the whole story. There are actually quite a few reasons why you may be seeing these blemishes around your eyes and if you address them all you can look in the mirror each morning without worrying about what you're going to find, even if you tossed and turned all night.
Here are five things that you can do to make sure the skin around your eyes is healthy and youthful looking whenever you hop out of bed in the morning.
1.) Sleep. Yes sleep is a factor in whether or not your eyes look bright and youthful in the morning. It is recommended that adults get at least 8 hours of sleep each night and if you're not getting that, you should. Getting enough rest is one of the best things you can do for your overall health and for your eye health as well.
2.) Minimize the amount of fluid you are retaining. One of the things that can happen to the skin around your eyes is that it can retain fluid making it look puffy and bloated. The way you can avoid this is to reduce the amount of salt you are eating in your diet and also limit your alcohol intake.
3.) If you are experiencing severe swelling you may want to apply a cold compress to the area around your eyes. A cold compress will soothe your eyes and reduce the swelling that you are experiencing. Apply a cold compress for a few minutes and you should see a reduction in that swelling quite rapidly.
4.) Hydrate and tighten the skin around your eyes with a good quality eye cream. A few drops of eye cream can go a long way and if you include it in your skincare routine each day you will see the puffiness and darkness reduce over time.
5.) See a dermatologist. This last step is a bit of a last resort and is not something that the average person will have to resort to, however it can be a good solution if you have severe and nagging dark circles or sagging skin around your eyes. Getting treatment options from a medical provider may be something you need to do for your long-term health.
If there is one way to make yourself look older and more tired it's to have bags under your eyes throughout the day. The good news is there are some wonderful ways you can manage this imperfection and take care of your skin each day. If you have a good skincare routine and are taking additional steps to help impact the skin around your eyes you will have youthful and bright eyes in no time.
