Will Eating Dark Chocolate Hurt Your Skin?

Will Eating Dark Chocolate Hurt Your Skin?

That special day, Valentine's Day, is coming and if you're anything like me you are ready to unwrap that beautiful heart shaped box of delicious chocolates and eat them by the handful.  Also, if you're like me, you know that you probably shouldn't eat them all in one sitting, even if it is ever so tempting.

Some experts would warn you to not eat the chocolates at all for fear of ruining your skin, which led me to wonder if it is ok to eat some dark chocolate or if it will have a detrimental impact on your skin.  The short answer that I always tell myself is everything in moderation.  You can have a little bit of chocolate, but don't go overboard.

The longer answer is this, WOAH, the long answer is, it actually has benefits for your skin and is not damaging to it at all.  This revelation may or may not have led me to head to the store to pick up a few extra boxes of delicious dark chocolates to chow down on over the next few weeks.

Really, dark chocolate is good for your skin?  It's true.  Dark chocolate has the following benefits for your skin;

  1. Prevents premature ageing
  2. Promotes cell growth
  3. Heals skin
  4. Reduces stress and inflammation

Now don't get me wrong, I am not saying you can replace delicious fruits and vegetables in your diet with dark chocolate, but what I am saying is that by eating a little bit of dark chocolate every once in a while you are not only NOT harming your skin you are actually providing your skin with some much needed nutrients.

So, when your sweetheart places a box of chocolates in front of you for Valentine's Day you can give a nice big warm hug and eat the chocolate slowly all the while knowing that you're not ruining your skin and some little pieces of that chocolate might actually be providing you with some benefit.
