Dispelling Five More Skincare Myths

Dispelling Five More Skincare Myths

Spend any amount of time on the Internet searching for skincare advice or ideas and you will undoubtedly stumble across some interesting skincare suggestions.  There are advocates for a lot of different things you can do to keep your skin looking vibrant and youthful, but how do you know who you can trust?  The truth of the matter is, medical professionals should really be your #1 source of skincare advice.

Trusting medical providers is the best way you can plan and execute a good quality skincare routine that is actually good for your skin and can help keep you looking and feeling your best.

This is true, even for the advice we give here.  We would fully encourage you to read our information, take it in and then double check it with your dermatologist to make sure it is right for you.  There are some general statements that can be made about the health of your skin, which are good to know, but all skin is different and you should be made aware of how these pieces of advice may impact your particular type of skin.

As you read this post, keep in mind that we are debunking myths that we have seen on the Internet.  This is not medical advice, but we do want to help you avoid these myths so you can get to the really important pieces of advice that will make sure you are taking the best care possible of your skin.

Myth #1: You need a LOT of skincare products for clear skin.

Skincare products are an essential to include in a healthy skincare routine, but you do not need a pile of a hundred different products that are going to take you all morning to apply.  Identifying a simple, gentle cleanser, a moisturizer and a good sunscreen for your skin is a good routine to start with.

Myth #2: Hot water cleanses deeply

Here's the truth.  Using hot water when you are cleaning your skin can actually be damaging to your skin because it strips away all of your skins natural oils which can eventually dry out your skin and even lead to irritation in some cases.  You are better off using lukewarm water on your skin when cleansing it.

Myth #3: Oily skin doesn't need moisturizer

Your skin type does not dictate whether it needs hydration or not.  In fact, all skin types need some form of hydration, including oily skin.  One thing you will want to do is to find a lightweight, oil free moisturizer for your skin type.

Myth #4: You can shrink your pores permanently

This myth has been floating around the Internet for a while now and it is simply not true.  Pores are a natural part of your skin and with proper skincare you can minimize their appearance but you cannot permanently shrink them despite your best efforts.

Myth #5: You can reverse sun damage

One of the best things you can do to maintain healthy skin is to protect it from the sun, but if you haven't always done this well and it has led to some sun damage, unfortunately there is not much you can do to recover your skin.  While you may be able to improve the damage that was caused you cannot completely reduce it with skincare products.  Prevention is key.

If you have a skincare myth you want us to debunk, DM us on Instagram and we will look into it.  We want to make sure you have the healthiest and youngest looking skin possible and most certainly don't want you to let myths damage your skin.
