Making Self Care a Priority? You Should and You're Not Alone

Mental health experts have been banging the self-care drum loudly in 2020 and 2021 to get people to realize that this pandemic is taking a toll both physically and emotionally on all of us.  It is therefore not a surprise that almost 3/4 of all Americans have said that they will be prioritizing self-care in the coming year.

Nearly 70% of all respondents to a recent survey said that self-care is the best way to relieve stress and keep sane during this very challenging time.  Those that made self-care a priority indicated that the top way they chose to take care of themselves was through at-home spa treatments.  Nearly 50% of all respondents said that at-home spa treatments were their go-to self-care choice.

Some other popular self-care choices included;

  • Manicures
  • Pedicures
  • Getting a haircut
  • Adult coloring books
  • Cleaning
  • Impromptu dance parties
  • Time with friends (even if virtual)
  • Exercise

The average person in 2020 reported having about 65 minutes per week to dedicate to self-care.  Many said that they had a goal of increasing that amount of time in 2021.

The effects of more self-care are tangible and very noticeable for all who prioritize it with many reporting greater productivity, higher levels of happiness, and more self confidence after taking this most needed time.

If you haven't been practicing self-care in these trying times, start.  It will give you the time and space to deal with some difficult feelings and emotions resulting from these trying times.  Even just some alone, quiet time, will recharge your batteries and put you in a better mind frame to tackle the day.
