Now that the holidays are behind us, it is time to look forward. Forward to the new year and all that this wonderful time of year has to offer. The start of 2024 presents an opportunity to look at everything in your life with fresh eyes and make some decisions on how you are going to improve them.
Whether you're the type of person who likes to make resolutions or just someone who is working to continually improve themselves and their routines, now is as good a time as any to look at your skincare routine and take stock of how yours is working for you and how you might be able to improve it in the new year. Whether you're taking time to look at each individual product you are using or your overall goals of the reason you have a routine in the first place, now is the time to make the tweaks that you see fit.
There is no right or wrong way to assess your skincare routine and take the time to make changes to it, but there are some things you can do to make the process smooth and allow it to have the outcome that is needed for you to maintain the glowing, youthful looking skin you are seeking. Below you will find a sort of road map to assess, adjust and follow your skincare routine. Follow along with this road map and you will be happier and healthier in the new year.
#1: Assess your current routine. You can go into as much or as little detail as you would like, but this is something you should do before you start making any wholesale changes. Look at your routine to determine what is working for your skin and what is not working for your skin. Ask yourself if each product you are using is giving you the results that you are looking for or if you need to move on to find a new product that will be the perfect fit for your goals.
On top of looking at the products themselves you will also want to consider any lifestyle changes that may be happening for you in the new year. Are you facing a new job? Will you be getting more or less sleep at night? How will your diet change? These are all questions you can be asking yourself to make sure you are ready to answer the pressing question of what your skincare routine needs to look like in the coming year.
#2: Determine what your skincare goals will be in the coming year. You will want to think about where your skincare is currently and what you will want to achieve with any adjustments being made to your routine. Your routine should address key areas of concern for you with targeted products that will tackle these areas of concern. In this step of the process you will want to identify what these areas of concern are and how your skincare routine can make them no longer a concern for you.
You will also want to prioritize the steps that really matter. Time and money are not infinite and if you are trying to focus on every single concern area you may not be able to solve any of them. If you look at what are the most pressing issues that are facing your skincare routine and address those first and get them under control you will be able to eliminate some of these concerns more quickly.
#3: Focus on making the routine enjoyable and sustainable. You can have big goals with lots of steps that will fizzle out after the first of the year goes by or you can look at which goals are most important to you, take the steps you need to get yourself on track for those goals and stick to them. One of the most important things you can do when trying to achieve something great is to stick to it. The success is in the journey and this is true for your skincare routine.
Keeping your routine simple and streamlined is one of the best things you can do to make sure you stay on track. If it is too complex you are going to miss steps and not see the results you wish to see and therefore you will end up giving up. Keeping the routine simple will allow you to maintain the structure of it and stay at it while you are seeing small incremental successes.
