Skin Nutrition: How What You Eat Affects Your Skin

A good skincare routine can get your complexion on a road to healthy very quickly, but did you realize just how much what you eat can impact your skin as well?  It's true.  Just like what you put into your body can affect how you feel and look, it can also impact your skin and how youthful it looks.

There is ample research to prove that certain foods are good for your skin and others that are not.  For example, you may have heard that chocolate can make you break-out with acne, but is that really true?  What if I told you it was the sugar in the chocolate and not the cocoa itself?

Here are a list of some not-so good for your skin foods to avoid:

  • Chips
  • Crackers
  • Pasta
  • White bread
  • Potatoes
  • Sugary drinks
  • Cookies

Eating these foods listed above in moderation will likely not have an oversized impact on your skin, but overdoing it, certainly will.

Here's the good news, there are foods that will actually HELP your skin stay youthful looking and avoid disastrous break-outs.  Here is a list of the foods that are actually good for your skin and will help offset any damage done to your skin by the above.

  • Cantaloupes
  • Carrots
  • Sweet Potatoes
  • Spinach
  • Lots and lots of water

It all comes down to processed or unprocessed foods.  The more "whole" foods you can eat that are as close to their original form as possible, the better off you will be with your skin's nutrition.
