If you've never heard the term "maskne" or you've never experienced it, you're in for a surprise. As we all continue to social distance and where we can't maintain social distance we are wearing a mask, this relatively new phenomenon has become an issue for those of us with sensitive skin.
Let's first define it, what is maskne?
Maskne is the acne that you get around your nose and mouth area due to extended use of a mask.
How do you prevent maskne?
There is no way around it, wearing a mask is a must during this time of COVID-19, and with warmer temperatures skin troubles are arising for many who are wearing masks properly. The reason this is an issue is that there is something called "sweat pimples" which appear when an area of your skin is consistently exposed to sweat.
Since you have to wear a mask and the summer heat is consistently exposing your skin to sweat, is there any way you can protect your skin against this maskne issue?
Here are some things you can do to limit your exposure to maskne:
- Use our Vegan Daily Facial Cleanser, both in the morning and at night.
- Continue your regular acne treatment, if you are already using one.
- Wash your mask regularly or use a new mask every time you head out to prevent bacteria from forming inside your mask.
- Avoid touching or picking at your face when wearing a mask
If you follow these couple of steps and be vigilant about keep your face clean and moisturized, in particular during the summer months, you may not be able to completely avoid exposure to maskne, but you will likely be able to limit the impact it has on your appearance.
