Three Ways A Good Night's Sleep Can Help Your Skin

There is nothing quite like waking up after a restful night's sleep and feeling ready to tackle the day with gusto.  Getting enough rest gives your whole body, mind, and spirit a new outlook on the day and makes the difference between dragging through the day needing to rely on caffeine to get through and being able to run towards health and happiness, no additives needed.

With this in mind, it stands to reason that a good night's sleep will do wonders for your skin as well.  It's true, being well rested has a tremendous impact on your skin and can make the difference between parched and drab looking skin and glowing and youthful looking skin.

Experts recommend that you get between 7-9 hours of sleep each night and if you are able to get that you will have better health outcomes.  There are three very specific things that happen when you get enough rest that will impact your skin, they include;

  1. Skin recovery from ultraviolet sun rays.  While you sleep your blood circulation to your skin improves which will then deliver more nutrients to your skin that are needed to recover from a day of sun exposure.
  2. Skin cells regenerate faster at night giving your skin greater elasticity and volume as collagen is generated more quickly at night.
  3. Your skin retains moisture at night.  The reason it is important to moisturize at night is that your skin will retain that moisture at a greater rate at night which will allow you to maximize the benefits of a skin moisturizer.

Getting a good night's sleep is critical to your skins ability to regenerate and grow overnight so you will have a fresh, new layer of skin in the morning that will keep you looking and feeling youthful when you wake up.

Take the known physical and emotional benefits of a good night's sleep to heart and you will be able to see that this is the one thing you can do to be healthier and happier throughout all aspects of your life.

It can be hard to get a good night's sleep with so much going on in our world these days, but setting yourself up for a long evening rest will position you to be better equipped to experience the trials and tribulations of a long day ahead.

Happy sleeping!
