This past month we spent some time heaping love on those who are good partners, good family members and good friends as part of our Valentine's Day celebrations, but did you forget someone? You may have forgotten to take care of yourself in all the love that was circling about earlier in the month.
Self care is a critical component to living a healthy and fulfilled life and while self care often gets confused with skincare, they are not the same thing. Having a high quality skincare routine is a good way to give yourself a little self care, it is most certainly not the only thing that can make you feel good and loved.
With that said, what are you planning for self care outside of your skincare routine in the coming weeks and months?
It's not always an easy question to answer because it takes some time to think about yourself and what you enjoy doing and what fills your bucket. It often takes time that you might think you don't have, but you need to make the time. It is not unusual for you to make the time for others, so you must make the time for yourself. Let us get you started on some ideas that might be able to spark some self care for you.
1.) Practice yoga. Yoga is proven to be good for your mind, body and soul and a little practicing of yoga is a great way to look inward and share your love of self with your own body and soul.
2.) Get more rest. Sleep is not a sign of weakness it is actually a sign of strength. Getting the proper amount of rest and in some cases a little more then usual is a good way to practice self care and keep your body and mind performing in tip top shape.
3.) Exercise. While you might not look at a trip to the gym as if it was self care, a stroll among nature or a bike ride through the city might be just what the doctor ordered for your self care. If you're not ready to hop on a bike, taking a five minute walk with your dog could do the trick too.
Self care can take all forms and there is no right or wrong way to do it. The good news is that you decide what it looks like to you and how it can benefit you each and every day, but if you ignore yourself you're ignoring the most important person in your life. Without a good self care routine you may wake up one day to find that you've neglected your mind, body and soul and that can be damaging to your health.
