Skincare 101: What Causes Wrinkles?

Skincare 101: What Causes Wrinkles?

Even though we may not want to believe it, wrinkles are a natural part of the aging process. Yours could be deep crevices or fine lines and you may be looking for the best anti aging cream. While our genetics mostly control the structure and texture of our skin, there are some causes we can control and some we cannot.

  • Age. As we get older there are structural changes that happen in our skin. The fat in deep layers of skin diminishes as well less oil production, which dries out the skin.
  • Smoking. This habit can accelerate the aging process of your skin, possibly due to the change in blood supply.
  • Exposure to ultraviolate (UV) light. Exposure to this type of light breaks down the collagen and elastic fibers deep within your skin. Without these connective tissues, the skin begins to loose strength and flexibility and begins to sag and wrinkle prematurely.
  • Repeated facial expressions. Facial movements and expressions, such as squinting or smiling, lead to fine lines and wrinkles. Each time you use a facial muscle, a groove forms beneath the surface of the skin. And as skin ages, it loses its flexibility and is no longer able to spring back in place.

Maintaining a proper skincare regimen is important as we age. A serum, like Earthen's Repair and Life Serum, when used daily moisturizes the skin to reduce eye puffiness as well as unwanted fine lines and wrinkles.
